eHarmony matches people by using 29 Dimensions of Compatibility, a unique system which can help to match like-minded people and result in more successful relationships. The system that they use identifies similar passions, conflict resolution techniques, and other traits that members use throughout their daily lives.
Research from eHarmony have shown that matching by using these features is most compatible to creating longer lasting, healthy relationships.
The relationship questionnaire has been created to help new members describe what they are looking for in a relationship. Taking approximately 30-40 minutes to complete, the questionnaire also asks about your life, where you live, how old you are, and what age you would like your matches to be. The questionnaire does not have to be completed, but doing so will give you better matches, and show others that you’re serious about finding that special someone. Once completed, you will receive matches that will consist of people which eHarmony think are the most compatible for you.
You do not have to complete the questionnaire in one sitting, you can save your progress, and come back later, which is handy.
To get a taste of the questionnaire, we have added a video to our eHarmony review page and also created a blog that lists all the questions asked during sign up.
If you would like to block a match and receive no communication from them, you will need to:
1. Find the match you wish to block
2. Select the ‘x’ that can be found next to the word “Hide.”
You also have the option of blocking someone via their profile by simply moving the mouse over the set of three dots to the upper right of their profile.
You will be given the option to block or hide their profile. If you block someone, you will no longer be able to communicate with them. If you have not communicated with someone, but you wish to block them, you must hide their profile first. Once you have hidden the profile, click on “Matches,” and select “Hidden Matches.” Now click the ‘x’ that can be found next to “Block.”
In a word, no!
A free trial just doesn't exist and if it did, we would tell you about it.
eHarmony do offer a 14 day refund policy, so this essentially works as a free trial OR you can use eHarmony for free during one of their free communication weekends.
I guess you dont want an email form ,so the best way is to call them on 0800 028 0308 (Monday - Friday 10:30 AM and 7:30 PM)
There are numerous reasons for this, I've noted some below:
The Paradox of choice - basically too many choices for anyone isn't good, it takes you too long and clouds your judgement. eHarmony get over this by distilling and presenting to you only the matches they deem the very best.
LONG questionnaire - once you have dedicated that amount of time to something you feel a need to make it work, so you will put more effort in.
Also, the whole premise of the questionnaire is to get to know you ore, by using more questions they can match you better.
They market themselves as a long term relationship site, so they get members of the same mind frame and so its more successful for everyone. If you have ever gone shopping when you are hungry, you will get the point.
4.1million - straight from the horses mouth.
My guess is that is profiles in the UK, not active members, but its still an impressive number.
Yes, but you will need to talk to eHarmony about it. Use this link

Is eHarmony a christian company and do they approve of gay relationships?
The original owner is a strict christian and because of how they created their algorithm they weren't 100% in favour of letting in gay couples. They have since been told they need to and so all gay couples are required to sign up to Compatible Partners. We are told there is a separate matching system for that service, but we haven't reviewed it as of yet. If anyone is interested, we'd love to hear from you.
eHarmony is a highly popular online dating site, famous for its high-quality matchmaking engine and its personality test based on Dr. Neil Clark Warren’s psychology research. The site was founded back in 2000 and has fostered thousands of happy relationships, as proven by the long list of testimonies. But what makes eHarmony truly stand out is that it doesn’t rush things: members are asked to complete a lengthy test at the beginning that serves as the basis for the matchmaking system.
However, a complex dating service might be discouraging for some singles. Although the site has a well-written FAQ and the staff is also quick to help, these features are only available after the registration is complete. For this reason there are some key aspects and questions of how eHarmony works that you might want to have answered before signing up.
What Is eHarmony Like?
Being a member of eHarmony is like being pampered by a dating agency but in the comfort of your own home. First of all, its style and design are top-notch. Second, you’ll always feel encouraged. From the moment that registration begins you are gently guided through the key steps with a personality test that doesn’t feel intrusive, it’s more like a fun quiz about you.
The menu system is self-explanatory and the profile section resembles an album instead of a boring sheet of preferences. Still, the shining point is undoubtedly the ‘Book of You’ where the personality test evaluation can be read; these results are summarized in a few paragraphs and can be freely shown to anyone.
How Does eHarmony Work?
At its core eHarmony resembles any other matchmaking sites, but adds its own flair to the process. After deciding to sign up you must undergo a rather lengthy registration process where you must flesh out your personality, background, preferences through a series of steps. This process also includes a personality test, where you must rate how well certain traits – such as a desire for commitment, honesty, helpfulness and the like – relate to you. After finishing this, eHarmony opens up for you.
The system itself is responsible for matchmaking, so you don’t need to bother with manual searches. The site shows new recommendations every day, although the filters can be refined. Each match is determined by a compatibility index, based on the test results of each user. In order receive plenty of suitable recommendations your profile should be fully completed, which is a time-consuming but on the whole a worthwhile task.
After you have been shown a promising partner, you can send each other messages, chat, or take things to the next level via secure in-site calls. However, direct communication requires you to upgrade your free account by subscribing to a paid membership.
How Does eHarmony’s Matching Work?
The site is open for all age groups, nationalities and ethnicities , but bear in mind that being able to create an account doesn’t guarantee a large pool of matches. eHarmony utilizes a complicated matchmaking system where you’ll be asked several questions about your background, religion, sexuality and preferences and how important these are to you. The answers affect who will appear on your list of daily recommendations.
If your expectations are more loose, then the site can match you with a larger group of people. On the other hand, setting a stronger filter will naturally reduce the number of daily profiles but provide a higher compatibility index for better results.
eHarmony’s main matchmaking is automated, meaning that you cannot launch custom searches and instead the system will send through a handful of recommended matches each day, the profiles of which are chosen by an algorithm that factors in the compatibility index. In short, eHarmony emphasizes quality over quantity. This seems convenient at first, but members are also restricted if they wish to have more opportunities to mingle. The only option to have a bigger list in this case is to change the preference options.
Is eHarmony Right for Me?
If you take online dating seriously or having experience with such a service, then eHarmony is right for you. The personality test at the beginning demands patience and self-evaluation since it is quite a long process, but the profile section is more detailed and interesting than what is typically seen with the competition.
If you just want to jump in and immediately start flirting, then eHarmony would definitely feel slow and complicated. However, the input you provide isn’t useless and you’ll be matched with partners who definitely share the same values as you, so if you are looking for a long-term relationship, then eHarmony is good choice.

Is eHarmony Legitimate and Safe?
Without a doubt, eHarmony is completely safe and valid. The founder and CEO of the company is a renowned clinical psychologist, Dr. Neil Clark Warren, who consulted with thousands of married couples. His 35-year long practice yielded a patented Compatibility Matching System, which serves as the foundation for the dating site. Furthermore, Dr. Warren also contributed to the creation of the site’s popular personality test.
While doing the registration, we didn’t encounter any intrusive questions or any attempts to collect personal information unrelated to the dating service. Although a detailed evaluation for our results isn’t provided, the finalized Book of You was spot on for us suggesting that the personality test works rather accurately.
As for safety, the site uses a vigilant algorithm that filters out incomplete or suspicious profiles. Still, there is a slim chance that a clever scammer slips through the net. In order to ensure that you can be certain of reliable profiles, eHarmony’s admin team runs a verification program. Those who opt for the TotalConnect plan have the opportunity to provide evidence of their true identity, and those that pass the test are awarded with a ‘Verified’ seal to show others that they are trustworthy.
Can You Use eHarmony for Free?
To a certain degree, yes. You can get through the registration and the personality test without paying a dime and a shorter version of the Book of You can be also read free of charge, which is in itself a good reason to give eHarmony a try. Furthermore, the matchmaking and the profile menu can be examined without cost.
However, most of your partner’s profile pictures are locked and you are unable to send messages unless you become a paying member. In short, the free account is good for sampling the service but the restrictions prevent you from establishing contact.
How Much Does eHarmony Cost?
eHarmony is a rather expensive service, although there is some flexibility depending on your preferences. There are two categories – Basic and TotalConnect – with varying benefits. The standard plan allows you to see the photos of all your matched partners as well as send an unlimited number of messages. The more advanced TotalConnect plan provides this and adds verified status to your profile, shows a more detailed version of the Book of You, and enables secure calls with other members.
eHarmony believes in the power of long-lasting relationships, which is why their commitment times are so long. Unlike other dating sites that provide monthly and quarterly subscriptions, the site only offers semi-annual, annual and two-year contracts. On the plus side, opting for a longer plan does mean lower monthly fees.
As for the actual numbers, six months of eHarmony membership costs $31.95 per month for the Basic plan, and $33.95 per month with the TotalConnect plan. But this fee is reduced significantly if you sign up for longer, charging $15.95 per month for both plans on an annual basis or the equivalent of $12.95 a month for a two-year contract for Basic and TotalConnect alike.
Does eHarmony Automatically Renew?
Yes, this is quite common with dating sites. Subscribing to any plan activates this option. When agreeing to any of the payment plans, the system deducts your money and starts the counter. Once the subscription has ended, eHarmony renews the contract for the same amount of time.
The reason behind this is that you will also receive a higher membership status by choosing a plan. Losing your privileges because the subscription period has ended could cause some hiccups while dating online. However, of course automatic renewal can be canceled in the options menu.
Is There an eHarmony App?
Regardless of whether you are an Android user or an Apple lover, eHarmony can bring your dating adventures to your smartphone. Although the app shakes things up a bit design-wise to make navigation easier on the smaller screen, all of the necessary features that you get used to on the browser version are still available. This extends to the personality test as well, which can be completed on your favorite touch-based device.
While the process might demand more fiddling on a smaller screen, the same rules and functions apply to customizing the profile section. Since your data is carried over from one device to another, we recommend doing the ‘paperwork’ on your desktop, and use the phone to chat and browse dates.
We think that using the app is a pleasant experience, although it took some time to adjust from the browser version and to find all the features. The app has a mixed reputation on the app stores, which is fairly common as people tend to blame the app itself for not finding a date right away.
Does eHarmony Have Gay Dating?
Yes. Although initially it wasn’t an option, in 2009 eHarmony launched a sister site called Compatible Partners. This service caters exclusively to the gay community. Compatible Partners offers the same perks, benefits and level of quality as eHarmony, including its personality test. Compatible Partners is also free to use with the same restrictions and subscription plans.
Is eHarmony Religious?
Religion plays an important role in the matchmaking system, but eHarmony itself doesn’t propagate any particular religion and nor does it force any particular ideology on its members. Every major religion is present here alongside their respective denominations: for example, if you pick Christianity, then you can further elaborate whether you are Catholic, Evangelist, Orthodox, and so on. Within the personality test it is possible to set how important faith and religion is to you and whether it’s a deciding factor in a potential relationship. If you set a high priority for it, then the system will only recommend singles who think the same as you.
Is eHarmony Worth It?
You should know that even the best dating site cannot guarantee 100% success. Still, eHarmony proudly presents a long list of testimonials as proof that its method is successful. Countless couples from all around the world have managed to find genuine love on the site. And not just young couples, either, but even those in their 50s and above. The science behind the matchmaking also helps the odds of a couple staying together.
Overall, eHarmony offers high-class matchmaking and a very interesting personality evaluation. Unfortunately, this high quality comes with a hefty price tag and an alarmingly long minimal commitment, and therefore you must consider whether you should subscribe or not. The monthly prices don’t differ much from what you might find on other dating sites, however these fees are multiplied by very long subscription lengths which demands a large sum to be payed upfront.
While other dating sites have created month-by-month plans so people can sample the service for a relatively small deposit, eHarmony plans start from six months. But the shortest plan is also the most expensive, meaning that you are asked to fork up nearly $200 at a very minimum.
The overall quality of eHarmony certainly justifies such a price tag but, as ever, it is better to make sure the service is suitable by thoroughly testing it with a free account before opting for a membership.
Who Owns eHarmony and Where Is It Located?
eHarmony was founded by Dr. Neil Clark Warren in 2001. The Los Angeles-based company has grown considerably ever since thanks to investors like Sequoia Capital and Technology Cross Ventures. Because of its location, the service caters primarily to a U.S. audience but it’s also available in Spanish and the site has region-specific variations for the UK, Canada and Australia.
